New Jersey bans cosmetics tested on animals, new law takes effect in 2022 – Telemundo New York (47)

Garden State stores will soon have to remove animal-tested cosmetic products from their cupboards and shelves, according to a new law signed Monday by Gov. Phil Murphy.

The law (S1726) that prohibits animal testing expands the current regulation. New Jersey had already banned animal testing for products in the state when a validated and alternative method exists. But the new guideline now prohibits the sale of animal-tested items out of state.

There are exceptions in the law if testing is required by a federal or state regulator, if an ingredient is in widespread use and irreplaceable, or if there is no accepted alternative way to test the product.

Those who violate the law could face fines of up to $ 1,000 per sale.

The change takes effect on March 1. It does not apply to items tested before the effective date.
