DUSSELDORF, Germany, December 7, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — According to a study published this week in ” Advances in diagnostic and therapeutic methods for joint diseases in dogs and cats”, a special issue published by the veterinary journal Animals.

The study results show that an intra-articular injection of autologous conditioned serum (ACS) improves the overall health of dogs with osteoarthritis and that the combination of ACS with the glucocorticoid triamcinolone results in even greater rapid and lasting improvements in function and ache. Adult dogs with hip osteoarthritis experience severe pain and limited movement, which reduces their quality of life.

The study compared treatment with ACS alone, treatment with glucocorticoids alone (in the first section of the previously published crossover study*) and treatment with ORTHOGEN AG’s proprietary therapy consisting of ACS and concomitant glucocorticoids.

The ACS contains the entire blood cell secretome (BCS) after prolonged coagulation in a defined environment. It contains anti-inflammatory and anabolic proteins derived from dog blood and is processed using a proprietary device recently developed by Orthogen Veterinary (Orthogen®Device vet).

“I’ve studied several autologous blood products and other intra-articular treatments, and Orthogen’s approach has proven to be a very effective treatment, with surprisingly long-lasting results,” says Dr. Joao Alves, veterinarian and lead author of the study. Dr. Alves is also a Police Captain specializing in intra-articular osteoarthritis treatments in highly trained police dogs.

The vet Julien Troilletdoctor of veterinary medicine, managing director of Orthogen Veterinary GmbH, says the company is looking for global partners to make regenerative medicine available to canine patients, enabling veterinarians to treat dogs with a therapy that attacks the root of the disease.
