Florida Petal is different and definitely not a classic flower shop. It’s about creative conception that exudes an 80s vibe and always remains mysterious. We reveal the secret of who is behind it.

Stuttgart – Between Rosenbergplatz and the Schwab- / Bebelstraße stop, hidden in a backyard, flower dreams have come true since January 2021. But there is much more to Florida Petal than tied bouquets that stand out from the crowd – more on that later.
Mysterium: Florida Petal
We are interested: Who is behind the artistically prepared Instagram page that combines 80s vibes with a mysterious summertime sadness – connoisseurs know what phase is. It’s Luzie Marquardt. The 28-year-old photographer greets us with a smile in her studio in the best of the west. But she was drawn out of her cosmos, the south of Stuttgart – her home port, as she herself so beautifully says.
Ten years ago she was already working in the ice cream parlor on Marienplatz or at the Blooms flower stand. This sparked her interest in floral and so she made her first appearance with Florida Petal at Easter 2020.
Creative conception instead of a flower shop
“I just knew: I want flowers to continue to be part of my life and if I don’t try it now, I won’t take that step anymore.” You shouldn’t be confused or discouraged, says the native of Stuttgart, who studied art in Essen. “It takes a lot of staying power. And even if there is someone who can do it better, don’t let yourself be unsettled. If you have an idea and manage to convey it to people, you will always find someone who likes it.”
Pop-ups am Kultur Kiosk
So Luzie popped up with a flower stand in the city. “The pop-up at the culture kiosk was important to me to get more visibility,” she explains. But in fact it is not their goal to present themselves with a flower stand somewhere. For Luzie, Florida Petal is more about conception, she is not a florist.
“What I want to do with Florida Petal is creative conception that has to do with flowers.”
Interested parties can always pre-order bouquets of flowers from her on certain occasions, about every two weeks. “But what is important to me: I’m not a flower shop where there is always something in stockpile, so in stock. Everything I do is curated and not a take-away product that you discover and pocket on the street corner. A lot flows there Conception with a. “
The description is almost reminiscent of a work of art. The creative mind would rather not talk about that, but she admits: “It is definitely something more delicate, more well thought-out.” Positioning herself clearly from the start and not dancing at all weddings is particularly important to her.
Florida, Versace, and Lana Del Rey-Vibes
And Luzie is pleased with the development in the floral branch. “It’s so nice to see that niches are forming in this dusty flower business and that everyone is going their own way.” We are talking about lifestyle and thus bouquets / creations of flowers that are individual and suit you – and have nothing to do with the classic flower shop.
“If you want Lana Del Rey vibes, call Florida Petal.”
But why flowers? This positive passing, of which Nietzsche also speaks as “affirmation of the passing”, is an important building block for Luzie’s artistic work and would always resonate. “That’s always what fascinated me about flowers, and that’s why I want them to be something very exclusive, because it’s something that you know is going to go away when you buy it.” The photographer speaks of something temporary, morbid and at the same time beautiful – and that brings us back to Summertime Sadness and Lana Del Rey.
And what’s up with the name? “It was created out of a total whim. I knew I wanted to do something with flowers and at that point I had a very clear idea of what my look should look like.” Catchwords like “80s”, “vintage”, “Versace”, “silk blouses”, “blatant floral patterns”, “something with Florida” – that says it all. And even if Luzie thinks that she has become a bit calmer and clearer in the meantime, she is still convinced: “The name fits perfectly.” For those who are interested: By the way, petal means flower petal (English, French).
The future is bright
In addition, the look into the future makes the flower artist’s eyes shine. “So when the lockdown is over, I wish I can outfit the craziest celebrity weddings,” she says with a laugh. By being a photographer, Luzie would like to try more creative concepts with flowers, as well as styling and set designs. “In the end, it always comes down to a picture or something visual for me.”
In a concept for a wedding, the manual work plays a role as well as the “brain” on the PC and that in turn plays the hopeless romantic, as she calls herself, quite well into the cards and is exactly her thing.
“What I dream of, but which will never happen: that Paris Hilton will call me when she gets married.”
What Florida Petal also wants to expand: Monobouquets. These are bouquets reduced to a flower – juicy but bold. The specialty of the flower should be emphasized, but does not have to look super natural, but can also look grown: welcome to Miami.
And what’s coming to Stuttgart? Miami? First the new studio in Stuttgart-West.
Studio, workshop, workshop
The own winter garden was besieged for too long and too much, with taking photos and flowers. “That’s when I noticed: You want to do something exclusive that has its price, then you can’t order people to come to your home.” Luzie started looking for a suitable location and came across the advertisement from Lilli Ceramics and Manjula Ceramics, who were looking for a workshop, via an online platform.
The creative ladies already knew each other by chance, two weeks later the three moved into their new creative space at Hasenbergstrasse 103. In the future there will also be workshops and possibly a pottery distillation service, sounds rosy – stay tuned.
If you are still looking for gifts for Mother’s Day, you will find it at Florida Petal.
