Since Nintendo released its last financial results, we’ve heard a lot about Animal Crossing: New horizons Sales. It is now sold over 22 million copies worldwide, which means it has sold more copies than the entire Metroid franchise.
If that wasn’t already enough to prove just how far Nintendo’s life sim series has become over the years, Game Data Library has tightened up some numbers – revealing that the most recent entry is now the second most popular video game. sold in Japan.
The only game in front of him is the original Pokémon title on Game Boy, which moved a whopping 10,230,000 units (beware, this is the combined total of red, green and blue). Technically, that means Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the best-selling single SKU in Japan, which puts it ahead of the original. Super Mario Bros. game in four months.

The other two Switch titles featured on this list include Pokemon Sword and Shield and Super Smash Bros.Ultimate. The game data library also mentions how Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue will likely be overtaken by New Horizons in the future.
