New Ford Focus RS canceled – Autoreview

The fourth generation Focus debuted against the backdrop of the growing crisis of Ford Corporation and was accompanied by a significant reduction in market geography (Focuses are no longer sold in the US and Russia), as well as the introduction of increasingly stringent environmental standards. In Europe and China, the current Focus is not as popular as previous models. And now the French portal Caradisiac reports that the company decided to abandon the extreme version of the Focus RS.

According to preliminary information, the new Ford Focus RS was conceived with a hybrid powerplant to meet the updated environmental standards. At the end of last year, we wrote that the Ereska will retain the 2.3 EcoBoost turbo four, and an electric motor will appear on the rear axle, as a result of which the total power can exceed 400 hp. Apparently, such a system turned out to be too expensive, so maintaining the already considerable prices at the previous level will not work: the current cost-cutting strategy adopted by Ford management implies a rejection of the development of expensive nodes for unpopular models.

However, even taking into account the presence of an electric superstructure, the gasoline turbo engine required refinement to reduce fuel consumption and CO emissions₂Therefore, Focus RS will go down in history after the unpopular Ka + hatchbacks and the C-Max family of single-volume. By the way, in Russia only the second-generation Focus RS was officially sold, but the third-generation all-wheel drive hatchback did not reach us. From now on, the Focus ST, introduced more than a year ago, will remain the fastest in the European range.
