The iPhone SE is available in black, white and red.
Apple
- Visually, the new iPhone SE corresponds to the iPhone 8. It has a home button with a fingerprint sensor and quite a bit of edge around the screen. This also means that it is no longer quite as small as the first iPhone SE. But with its 4.7-inch screen, it’s still slightly smaller than the currently smallest iPhone, the iPhone 11 Pro.
- As with its predecessor, the price is the highlight. The cheapest variant costs CHF 450 less this year than in 2016. There is more than enough 64 GB of storage space for this. For a surcharge, there are also variants with 128 GB and 256 GB.
- For the technical innards, Apple relies on the A13 processor known from the latest top iPhones. It is extremely fast and should be more than good enough for several years.
- With the camera you have to do without triple and double cameras. There is only one camera. A test must show how good it is. Most people only need a camera anyway. Therefore, you should hardly miss telephoto and wide-angle functions.

You can pre-order the new iPhone SE from April 17th. Sales will start a week later on April 24th.
Overall, the device makes a very reasonable impression. Only fans of the angular design and the compact size that distinguished the iPhone SE 2016 should be disappointed. The new iPhone SE is no longer a tiny one.
The battery performance is interesting in the new edition. In the area, the latest iPhones have finally cleared up the old iPhone annoyance. The 11 series iPhones no longer have to hide from the competition when it comes to endurance. Can the iPhone SE connect to it?
Otherwise, it meets all the requirements for a smartphone on paper. Corporate customers, in particular, who want a current telephone for under CHF 500 for their employees, will be delighted with the pragmatic range in the Apple range. If you want to equip your employees with iPhones, you don’t want to pay for extras such as face scanners or triple cameras.
Bad news for the Android warehouse
The first iPhone SE was already poaching in the Android warehouse. With prices under CHF 500 (and later under CHF 400), Apple was able to win customers who would otherwise have bought an Android phone.
Apple should pursue this goal again this time. Even with a budget of less than CHF 500 in the past, I have mostly come to Android phones. This could change now. Provided that Apple does not make unnecessary blunders with the new iPhone SE.
