New E10 Gasoline Causing Major Issues for Older Cars in the Czech Republic

With the new year, a number of various changes have traditionally come, which are dated in such a way that they simply come into effect from the beginning of the year. But few people notice it, which is also the purpose of many of them. But after a while it can really pay for it badly.

The cars leave quickly

An example is a significant change at gas stations, where new gasoline is starting to be sold as standard, namely natural with the designation E10 instead of the previous E5. The designation expresses the proportion of the bio-component mixed into the gasoline. Until now, it was five percent, but from the new year it is ten percent. Gas stations still have some stocks of old fuel, so the change will happen gradually, but within a few months it will happen at all pumps.

According to Filip Turk, an expert on cars, especially those with an older year of production, this is literally liquidation for a whole range of vehicles in the Czech Republic, as he stated in his program Top Secret.

Mixing the bio component will destroy a huge number of cars. Basically all direct injection cars from around 2003 to 2005, an awful lot of concern cars, FSI engines, 2 liter Renaults, Fiat 1.8s, Ford Mondeo 1.8s from 2003 to 2007,” said Turek, saying that the new fuel is extremely harmful for approximately 2.5 million cars in the Czech Republic.

These are mainly older cars, but the average age of the fleet in the Czech Republic is around 16 years. The reason is that the economic situation of the country is still not such that people can regularly buy newer cars.

Expert Turek also expressed the assumption that it may be a subliminal effort to get older cars off the roads, as with the advent of electromobility, there would be a risk that they would threaten the targets in the form of carbon dioxide emissions.

The alternatives are complex

At the same time, it is difficult to outright ban old cars when someone has already bought them, but if they leave before they should due to refueling with harmful fuel, it is difficult for anyone to object. At the same time, it is also surprising that the bio component is mixed into gasoline to a greater extent, when it became clear years ago that it was a senseless step that endangered agricultural activity and is literally riddled with subsidies.

At the same time, there are very few alternatives for owners of older cars. Paradoxically, they would have to refuel with more expensive gasoline with a higher octane number, such as Verva 100. But it also contains a certain bio-component, albeit of the second generation, and moreover, it is not suitable for every engine.

In some cases, you can use EuroOil gas stations, which sometimes offer gasoline without mixed bio-components, but only at a few pumps, which also change. Pure natural is also available to ultralight operators. It is understandable to ask why them. Isn’t it because someone knows what bio-components are and what they can cause problems? While in the case of a car it is usually only the engine that does it, it can also end fatally in a plane.
