New Citroen Relay Back to Back: Innovative Transport Solution by Citroen and Peugeot

You may have noticed that a truck carrying a van chassis is intended for modifications or additions to the rear cargo area – and perhaps also how inefficient such a transport space is.

The Citroën car company responds to this with a special thing that looks like an April Fool’s joke or a car from an old grotesque – it is two full-size cabins connected “back to back”.

This creation is called Citroën Relay Back to Back and one comes across it on the British website of this French brand, the name Relay is just a local name for the Jumper model. Peugeot offers something similar in the UK market and calls it the same – Boxer Back to Back.

How good is something like that? After all, if it worked in tight spaces where you can’t turn, it would at least have a body, right? Maybe so, but cabins connected in this way should not be operated.

It is an attempt – very effective, it must be admitted – to save space and money when transporting semi-finished products from the production plant to other companies, which replace the original chassis up, for example, a living area, the back of an ambulance or anything like that.

Technically, the cabins are completely self-contained, they have a front drive. Stellantis saves chassis frames and transportation costs, and the bodybuilder does not have to remove or modify the frame if it does not suit him, and can simply add his own frame. This also gives him more freedom in the design of the rear of the car.
