After a first appearance in outline a few days ago, the Citroën C4 has revealed all its secrets during its official presentation. Original in more ways than one, it intends to revive the tradition of Citroën’s compact sedans, and will notably be fitted with an electric motor and a “Citroën” suspension. What delight fans of the brand?
Classic sedans are no longer popular? Never mind, the new Citroën C4 borrows the stylistic assets of the SUV (increased ground clearance, enveloping protections, etc.); the beautiful marketing packaging will take care of passing it off as a sedan… while other brands would no doubt have passed it off as a Coupé SUV. Because with its plunging rear, the new C4 takes the opposite of the current guns of the category, with the vertical tailgate to favor the space / space ratio. The designers say they were inspired by the GS, whose brand celebrates the 50th anniversary this year, for the design of its profile. And no less than 31 combinations of exterior colors will be offered!
Comfort at the top
The C4 does not, however, give up its practical aspects, in particular by offering record legroom for the category in the rear seats. The 380-liter trunk, on the other hand, is all that is most conventional, equivalent to that of a Golf for example. Its repositionable floor allows you to take advantage of a flat loading threshold.
To take care of the comfort of its occupants, this new C4 adopts suspensions with hydraulic stops already used on the C5 Aircross in particular. The designers also paid particular attention to the design and the softness of the seats. Citroën announces the best comfort in the segment! The interior also surprises with its sobriety compared to the exterior. Here we will have to look at the details to notice in particular the skins which imitate chevrons, the brand’s emblem. Two details are surprising, however: the presence of a drawer in addition to the classic glove box, and a retractable tablet support facing the front passenger. The driver has a head-up display and automated highway driving among his 20 driver assistance systems.
The choice of engines
In addition to the well-known engines on other PSA models in petrol (Puretech 100 and 130 and 155 hp) and diesel (BlueHDI 100 and 130), the new C4 receives an electric engine when it takes the name ë-C4 . It is then powered by the same battery-engine assembly as the Peugeot e-208 and e-2008, namely a 52 kWh battery which powers a 100 kW (136 hp) engine. Autonomy is announced at 350 km in this case. And thanks to the fast charge, 10 minutes will be enough to recover 100 km of autonomy. It is estimated that this latest version could represent up to 20% of model sales following the positive post-covid development recorded by the electric car market. The prices are not yet known, but Citroën promises its electric will be “for all”.
