The new Canyon Exceed CF, SLX and CFR debut today, with prices ranging from € 1,699 to € 6,499.
Canyon Factory Racing (CFR) models are premium quality products that have evolved through a partnership between Canyon engineers, designers, mechanics and the world’s fastest athletes such as Pauline Ferrand Prevot, Kristian Hynek, Petter Fagerhaug and Matthieu van der Poel .
The new Exceed CFR has one of the lightest production frames in the world and stops the balance at just 835 grams (size M). Cutting-edge engineering and materials allow such an extraordinary result.
The new Canyon Exceed CFR uses a material that we call “unicorn hair”: an uncommon carbon fiber (Toray M40X) which is so expensive and scarcely available that it is rarely used in the cycling industry.
Unicorn hair is stiff and resistant (i.e. two qualities that rarely manage to reconcile in carbon fiber), allowing us to use less material while maintaining exceptional stiffness and resistance.
In addition, the CF, SLX and CFR versions use the same production process, which means that all frames have the same tube profiles and technical characteristics (except for the carbon and resin type), such as the new seat post clamping system. .
This means that the frame weights change depending on the version and in fact Canyon declares 835 gr for the CFR frame, 1015 gr for the SLX frame e 1312 gr for the CF frame, always in size M.
All of Canyon’s new Exceed models feature modern yet balanced geometry, which increases your control on difficult terrain while being fast and agile on the narrowest trails. More open head angle (69 degrees), greater reach (about 10 mm more), 80 mm stem on all sizes and a 2 mm shorter stay are the most noticeable changes to the Exceed geometry.
Integrated handlebar and dropper post
The CFR and SLX versions have a new integrated handlebar as standard which allows a more racing and aerodynamic position.
Together with DT Swiss Canyon introduces a dropper post with 60 mm travel, available in carbon fiber on the CFR and in light alloy on the SLX with a weight of 390 and 420 gr respectively.
This component extends the potential of use of the Canyon Exceed downhill.
Even more accurate details
The new Canyon Exceed are equipped with the IPU, or Impact Protection Unit that prevents the handlebar from rotating and impacting the upper tube. The new IPU is more compact and better integrated into the chassis.
The closure of the seatpost is entrusted to a new system, even cleaner aesthetically and also practically (it can better shield the mud), and derived from the Canyon Inflite cyclocross.
New attachment for the derailleur that better protects the rear derailleur in case of impact, deforming in an optimal way.
The Quixle system for thru axles also debuts: it requires no tools, has a clean aesthetic and is easy to use.
Also new is the passage of the cables inside the frame (it allows an increase in the rigidity of the frame) and also the plate of the headset which facilitates the insertion of the cables and does not prevent the rotation of the handlebar.
The new Exceed models are all equipped with 29-inch wheels and in every frame size, including the new XS suitable for riders from 158 cm and up, there are two water bottles to ensure proper hydration even in the longest races.
