The research into antibodies in blood plasma as a possible medicine against corona from Erasmus MC and the Sanquin blood bank will be continued in another form at the end of August. Then the doctors will test on patients who are just sick and do not yet have to go to the hospital.

The current test has been temporarily discontinued because it appears to have no effect. Collection of blood plasma from cured corona patients began in March of this year. It was investigated whether the antibodies in that plasma help to reduce corona symptoms in other patients.
Equal antibodies
“To our surprise, it turns out that on the day of their hospitalization, the patients already had as many antibodies as the healed patients,” says lead researcher Bart Rijnders of Erasmus MC.
“When we started in April, it was not so easy to quickly measure whether there were antibodies in the blood,” says Rijders. “After a few months and 86 patients further, we come to this conclusion.”
Not every patient who is just sick with the coronavirus is treated with the blood plasma. Rijnders: “Think mainly of the elderly, people with poor resistance or who are seriously overweight.”
