She thinks about her father every day and still hasn’t come to terms with his death. “I see the last meeting as today. I noticed that dad was breathing harder and was thin, but he said that he was better after the pneumonia he had. He was happy to see us with Lucka,” he recalls Gottova, who shocked her father with her appearance at the time. “I had big problems with alcohol and pills and it showed on me. In retrospect, I’m ashamed, but sometimes you get into trouble,” he muses.

Last hello
At the time, Dominika was accompanied to Bertramka by her husband, Finnish musician Timo Tolkki (56). He and Karl Gott talked mainly about music that evening. “They understood each other very well and I was happy about that. When my father said goodbye to me, he had tears in his eyes and waved to me. I had no idea that he was fighting leukemia, that he had two months left to live, and most importantly that we were seeing each other for the last time,” cried the Master’s eldest daughter on the phone.

Remorse
After returning to Finland, Dominika felt guilty about the way she looked and wanted to get herself together – mainly for her father’s sake – which she started to do well. But Karl Gott’s days in this world were gradually running out. “Ivana only told me about my father’s leukemia at the turn of August and September. If both of them had told me this back in July, I wouldn’t have flown out of Prague, gone there for treatment and tried to show my dad that I look better. And most importantly – I would be close to him,” reflects Dominika after three years, who lit a candle for her father on July 28 and remembered the good times she had with him. Dominika showed Sunday’s Aha! a few unearthed archival photos with dad and younger sisters.
