The cause of the unrest at Netflix is ”The closer”, the new show by popular comedian Dave Chappelle that has been available on Netflix since October 5. On that show, Chappelle pokes fun at the LGBTQ+ community, especially the t in that acronym, which stands for the trans people, people whose gender identities don’t match their birth gender.
“Gender is a fact,” says Chappelle. “Every person in this room, every person on earth has passed through the legs of a woman to get to earth. That’s a fact. Now I am not saying that trans women are not women; I’m just saying that the vaginas they have… You know what I mean.”
That statement not only caused a stir among Netflix viewers, but also among the employees of the streaming platform. Terra Field, a trans woman who works for Netflix, did not hesitate and expressed her displeasure the day after the premiere in an extensive thread on Twitter, in which she listed trans people who have been killed this year.
