Netflix announces subscription price increase and record-breaking subscriber growth in Q3

At the beginning of October, we already wrote that the video streaming giant Netflix plans to raise subscription prices again. Said – done. When informing about its third quarter financial results, the company also announced an increase in subscription prices. In some countries, such as the United States, Great Britain and France, they came into effect immediately, but in the next week, customers in other parts of the world will also feel it.

“Netflix” has informed that starting from October 18, users in the US will have to pay $2 more for the “Netflix Basic” plan, ie $11.99 per month. On the other hand, the price of the “Premium” subscription has increased from USD 19.99 to USD 22.99 per month. In France, however, the “Basic” plan will cost EUR 10.99 (previously EUR 8.99) and the “Premium” plan will cost EUR 19.99 (previously EUR 17.99). It looks like the price of the Standard and Basic with Ads plans will remain the same, at least for now. Viewers in Germany, Spain, Japan, Mexico, Australia and Brazil are also expected to feel the price hike next week.

In justifying the price increase, Netflix emphasizes that it offers its subscribers an ever-increasing value of the service, for which they have to pay a little more from time to time. The company also emphasizes the value of its subscription plans, noting that the price of $6.99 a month for Basic with Ads is well below the average price of a single movie ticket.

In addition to these news, “Netflix” announced that in the third quarter of 2023 the number of subscribers increased by 8.76 million, thus their total number currently reaches 247.15 million. The company has not experienced such an increase since the 2nd quarter of 2020, when Covid-19 reigned throughout the world and strict restrictions were applied. Meanwhile, Netflix’s revenue in the previous quarter reached 8.5 billion dollars.
