near Rouen, a village deprived of schools after numerous cases of Covid-19

Reportage. In the town of Eslettes located near Rouen, many cases of Covid have been detected at the nursery school, which must therefore close until Thursday, March 25. Problem, this suspension also involves that of the primary school.

Normally, the Claudine-Guérin nursery school in Eslettes, fifteen minutes north of Rouen, is swarming with children in the playground. Except that since the prefectural decree of Tuesday March 16, the establishment rings hollow. A decision taken after multiple cases detected, including six adults and twenty students. The school was thus forced to close its doors until Thursday, March 25.

“We have decided to close the nursery school after a multiplication of cases of Covid-19, confirms the mayor of Eslettes, Roland Guéville. This affects everyone: director, Atsem (regional agents specializing in nursery schools) and students. And even all the teachers [au nombre de trois, Ndlr] are sick. ”

However, this difficulty leads to another, as the elected official explains. “The situation is even more difficult because we have to close the primary school too. Siblings exist between the two establishments, which are close to each other. With the academic inspection, we preferred not to take any risks. The choice was therefore made to close the Denis-Diderot primary school on Thursday March 18 and Friday March 19. “Now we have to see how we are going to clean the premises,” adds Roland Guéville.

“As for confinement”

As during the first confinement, the children will therefore study at home. On the parents’ side, everyone was quickly made aware. “My wife received a notification on her phone Tuesday evening”, testifies Gilles. With the school closing, the grandfather will be able to welcome his granddaughter, who is educated in a small section: “I’m happy to get her back. As for confinement, we will give lessons at home. It’s going to be fine, we’re used to it now. “

“We will arrange with the grandparents and neighbors to look after our children. The school will continue at a distance despite the circumstances, ”indicates Catherine, mother of a student at the Diderot school. Jules is a CM2 student. He says: “Tuesday evening, we had to take our school supplies home. There are sick students at school. ”

If Jules and Catherine do not seem destabilized by the situation, it will not necessarily be easy, as evoked by Michael, another parent of a student: “It will be complicated to manage the children in addition to teleworking. But hey … We adapt, as usual. ”

In the end, 180 students are deprived of a school in Eslettes. And who will relive, in the space of a few days, the same situation as a year ago, almost to the day.
