Uncommon, but terrible accident this Saturday at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Leader Price supermarket, while crossing Castelnau-le-Lez, at the northeast doors of Montpellier : a pedestrian was hit by a driver, who ended up running in the canopy.

This woman, a homeless man in his thirties who was begging in front of the supermarket canopy was run over. She got stuck under the vehicle and lost consciousness. Despite rapid intervention by firefighters and a doctor from Sdis 34, she could not be resuscitated, she passed away.

An octogenarian

The gendarmes of Castenlau-le-Lez are in charge of the investigation. The 87-year-old driver, unharmed but very shocked, was taken to the brigade for police custody after being examined by a doctor. She is heard for involuntary manslaughter.

The drama happened while the octogenarian was driving his car to leave the parking lot, after shopping at the supermarket. The hypothesis that she got the pedals wrong, that she accelerated suddenly instead of braking is preferred.
