The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, He proclaimed himself the winner of the general elections held this Sunday.

“The record in the entire democratic history of the world. See you at 9pm in front of the National Palace. God bless El Salvador,” he added in his message.

Bukele, 42, was the big favorite in these elections in which five candidates from opposition parties also compete. Among these are the historic Nationalist Republican Alliance (Arena, right) and the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN, left), with practically no chance of victory, according to the polls.

Nayib Bukele is the first president of the democratic stage of El Salvador with the option of seeking immediate re-election. If the victory is confirmed, he would be the first to repeat the position even though the Constitution does not allow it.

This Sunday, the current president of El Salvador Nayib Bukele called on all citizens to cast their vote.

Bukele, despite the electoral silence in force in the country, asked the population to go out and vote to “continue fighting the gangs,” this just a few minutes before the presidential and legislative elections conclude.

Bukele held a press conference at a hotel in San Salvador, after casting his vote, in which he highlighted the influx of Salvadorans abroad. Especially in the United States, in voting centers assigned by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE).

He also pointed out, as he did on his social networks during the political campaign period, that it is necessary to have a qualified majority in the Legislative Assembly, with a pro-government majority, to continue with the emergency regime measure, implemented by his Government to combat the gangs.
