Navy ship near Curaçao intercepts cocaine and fires warning shots

A Dutch navy ship has intercepted a drug transport south of Curaçao. The Zr.Ms. Friesland, which is currently deployed for coast guard duties in the Caribbean, fired several warning shots. This is reported by the Coast Guard in the Caribbean.

The drugs were on board a boat that traveled a well-known smuggling route. After the smuggler boat was discovered, a chase ensued, during which the naval vessel fired warning shots.

The three smugglers threw the cargo of drugs overboard and managed to escape. The consignment of hard drugs was then fished out of the sea by the navy and confiscated. It involved a total of 224 kilos of cocaine.

The Zr.Ms. Friesland has been active in the Caribbean since the beginning of this year. The Zr.Ms. Holland, the ship previously stationed in the region, intercepted 4,735 kilograms of cocaine in November and December last year. This happened during five different actions.
