Navi 22 “Navy Flounder”: specifications and diagrams

The Radeon RX 6700 XT will be built on a Navi 22 GPU, which of course will not be exactly half the version of the large Navi 21, as some parts like the multimedia engine will be the same and others like the memory controller will not be half the width. We are only talking here in terms of the number of shader engines and the resulting Stream processors or ray tracing cores, so it is no wonder that the Navi 22 GPU alone will not take up only half the area of the Navi 21 chip.2, which is, however, a significant increase over its predecessor in the form of Navi 10 with the same number of 2560 Stream processors (251 mm2).

.

We can not be surprised by the new hardware, of which we can mention mainly Ray Accelerators kernels, but also Infinity Cache. And by the way, according to the latest information, even it will not be half that of the Navi 21 (128 MB), as it will have a capacity of 96 MB. Navi 22 will be comparable in size to the Vega 20 chip (Radeon VII) with its 331 mm2, which was also a 7nm GPU that carried 3840 Stream processors.

The biggest difference between Navi 21 and Navi 22 is the number of Shader Engines, which are two in the new GPU, each of which carries ten WGPs of 128 Stream processors, or the resulting total 2560 Stream processors. In addition, the number of TMU texturing units has been halved, of which there are exactly 160 with a final fill-rate of 400 GTex / s, and of course we also have fewer ROP units, as well as half with an output of 160 GPix / s (same number as in Navi 10).

The bus width of 192 bits is confirmed, which will have its effects on memory throughput, but this is just to be addressed by Infinity Cache, and it is only good that its capacity has not been reduced by half, but only by a quarter. GDDR6 throughput alone should reach 384 GB / s if AMD is expected to use 16Gb / s of memory.

The number of 20 WGP / 40 CU / 2560 Stream processors will give the Navi 22 chip half the gross power compared to the Navi 21 (assuming the same beats), so it will be about 12 to 13 TFLOPS in the FP32 just depending on the beats.

Finally, we have one fresh news from Cowcotland, according to which AMD will finally present only the Radeon RX 6700 XT next week, on March 3, which will be launched on March 18, and the RX 6700 card will be introduced at a later date. –
