Naturalized Footballer Shayne Pattynama Officially Cleared to Play for Indonesian National Team

Jakarta

Naturalized footballer Shayne Pattynama finally officially able to play in the Indonesian National Team. FIFA has already provided its recommendations in this regard.

Shayne is known to have been in Indonesia since March 26. He was called up by Coach Shin Tae-yong in the hope of appearing in the national team trials against Burundi on March 28.

But that intention failed to materialize. The Dutch-Indonesian player is known to still have problems with his federation moving from the KNVB (Dutch Football Federation) to PSSI.

Apart from that, the passport issue was also not resolved, so Shayne Pattynama had to come to Indonesia. Even though the 24-year-old player has legally become an Indonesian Citizen (WNI) since the end of last January.

This, Shayne Pattynama can finally breathe easy. Both PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir, FIFA, and the KNVB have completed everything Shayne requires to strengthen the Indonesian National Team in the future.

This was confirmed directly by PSSI Executive Committee member Arya Sinulingga.

“As PSSI chairman Erick Thohir has said, Shayne Pattynama can switch federations, so FIFA has also made recommendations for that,” Arya told reporters on Friday (14/4/2023).

“So we have also fulfilled all the requirements set by FIFA for naturalized players. So in the future Shayne Pattynama can play on behalf of the Indonesian national team,” he said.

The conditions that have been assessed have been met Shayne among other things he is a permanent citizen of Indonesia, which does not depend on the place of residence in that country (compare article 5 paragraph 1 RGAS); (through Naturalization).

Then he has never participated in a match (whether in whole or in part) in any official competition of any category or any type of football for any other association (see article 5 par. 3 RGAS);

Then finally one (or both) biological parents or grandparents were born in Indonesia (article 7 par.1 lit. a) to c) RGAS) (Shayne’s father was born in Semarang, Indonesia).

“We have also received a letter from the KNVB (Dutch Football Federation) stating that Shayne has never been in the Dutch A team. So with this Shayne’s naturalization business has been completed. So he can play for Indonesia,” Arya emphasized.
