In the company, the decrease in consumption was explained by a significant drop in mineral fertilizer and electricity production in connection with high gas prices, as well as warm winters and the use of fuel oil in Vilnius’ heating supply.

Despite the reduction in gas consumption, 53 TWh of gas flowed through the “Amber Grid” pipeline infrastructure last year, which is 21% more than in 2021. The increase in the amount of gas transmission is related to the fact that the flow of gas to Latvia increased ten times and a new gas interconnection with Poland was opened in May.

The remaining 18.4 TWh of gas were transported through the Lithuanian infrastructure last year Baltic for national needs. In 2021, there were 1.9 TWh. In May-December, 6.4 TWh of gas was supplied to Poland and 2.3 TWh to Lithuania via the new gas pipeline.

Lithuania received 32.1 TWh of gas through the Klaipeda liquefied natural gas terminal, which is 79% of the entire amount of gas entering the “Amber Grid” system.

In January-March, 3.1 TWh or 8% of the natural gas consumed in Lithuania was imported from Belarus. Since April 1, when Lithuania stopped importing Russian gas, only the gas needed by Russia’s Kaliningrad region flows through the Lithuania-Belarus interconnection. Gas transit through Lithuania to this Russian exclave reached 23 TWh last year, which is 12% less than in 2021.
