Employees in the metal and electrical industry get more money

Thousands of employees in the metal and electrical industry in our region get more money. Employers and IG Metall agreed on a new collective agreement for North Rhine-Westphalia on Tuesday morning. Among other things, a corona premium and annually recurring special payments were agreed.

A four-day week becomes possible

In June, employees receive a one-time corona allowance of 500 euros. The new special payment is paid for the first time in February, it then amounts to a good 18 percent of a monthly salary and is increased to just under 28 percent in the following year. In addition, it should be possible to shorten working hours to a four-day week without earning significantly less money.

Pilot degree for other regions

The collective bargaining for the metal and electrical workers was particularly difficult this time because many companies are hard hit in the current crisis. Nevertheless, IG Metall – also in our region – has called for warning strikes several times. The agreement that has now been reached for NRW is considered a pilot deal for the industry throughout Germany.
