Nationwide warning strike, demos and rally in Düsseldorf on December 5th, 2023

Ahead of what is expected to be the final round of collective bargaining for the state public sector in Potsdam from December 7, 2023, employees will increase the pressure on employers with a nationwide warning strike in North Rhine-Westphalia. Rallies and demonstrations are taking place in Düsseldorf.

From 11 a.m.:

Kick-off rally by ver.di, GEW NRW and GdP in NRW in front of the DGB building on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße. Speakers: Gabriele Schmidt (state manager of ver.di NRW), Ayla Çelik (state chair of GEW NRW), Michael Mertens (GDP) and a youth representative from each of the three unions. Anja Weber (Chairwoman of DGB NRW) and Knut Giesler (District Manager IG Metall NRW) are expected to give greetings.

Kick-off rally of the dbb on Jägerhofstrasse in the immediate vicinity of the Ministry of Finance. Speakers: Roland Staude (Chairman of the DBB NRW), Stefan Behlau (Chairman of the NRW Education Association), Manfred Lehmann (Chairman of the German Tax Union of NRW), Erich Rettinghaus (Chairman of the German Police Union of NRW), Hermann-Josef Siebigteroth (VDstra. Fachunion of road and transport workers), Susanne Aumann (chairwoman of dbb jugend NRW).

From 12 p.m.: Start of the demonstrations

From 1 p.m.: Large joint rally in front of the state parliament on the state parliament lawn.

The unions’ core demands are:

• Employees’ salaries should be increased by 10.5 percent, but at least by 500 euros per month.
• The salaries of trainees, students and interns are to be increased by 200 euros per month.
• The term should be 12 months.
• Permanent full-time employment of trainees and dual students after successfully completing their training.
