The Northern Irish were already opponents of the ÖFB in the 2018/19 Nations League and were only third behind Bosnia-Herzegovina and Austria. The Romanians are a possible EM opponent for the Austrians should they prevail in the play-off against Iceland as well as against Bulgaria or Hungary. And among the Norwegians, the former Red Bull Salzburg and now Borussia Dortmund shooting star Erling Haaland probably plays.
The most important side effect of the Nations League is the back door to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The actual World Cup qualification will take place from March to November 2021. Only the ten group winners buy the direct World Cup ticket. The top two will play three additional starting positions in March 2022 with the two best Nations League group winners, who are not already qualified or eligible to participate.
