National Puerto Rican Parade Gets Ready to Celebrate Music, Culture and Joy!

NEW YORK — One of New York City’s most anticipated summer shows is just weeks away.

This is the National Puerto Rican Parade, (NPRDP, for its acronym in English), which celebrates on Sunday June 11 the 66th edition of an event that shows the culture, history and contributions of Puerto Ricans in the country and the world. .

with the theme Music, Culture and Joy, the iconic parade will travel 35 blocks down Fifth Avenue starting at 11:00 am on Sunday, June 11 with information on the best of Isla del Encanto’s heritage and achievements. It is considered one of the largest cultural celebrations in the United States with an estimated attendance of one million people.

“We are excited about the list of honorees for the 2023 Parade, which features so many legendary and successful people in our community of cities across the United States and Puerto Rico; from New York City to Los Angeles and from Chicago to Aguadilla. We invite people from all over the country to join us in commemorating our Music, Culture and Joy on the world stage that is Fifth Avenue,” said Lillian Rodríguez López, President of the Parade Board of Directors. “We want to thank our supporters and sponsors who, each year, provide invaluable funds to award $200,000 in scholarships to students of Puerto Rican descent.”

Leading the procession will be television personality, actress and author Giselle Blondet, bearing the title of Grand Marshal. Born in New York City and raised in Puerto Rico, Blondet is recognized as one of the most iconic figures in Spanish-language television who began her career in Puerto Rico in the 1980s. She is now the co-host of Telemundo’s daytime show La Mesa Caliente.

The actress Justina Machado will also be in the parade, as Queen. Machado is best known for her role as Penélope Alvarez in the 2017 remake and hit television series “One Day at a Time“.

Marching as Madrina (Godmother) will be singer, radio personality, and certified life coach, Judy Torres. Affectionately known as the “Queen of Freestyle,” Torres has had tremendous success singing the popular New York-born genre of music, freestyle, for over 35 years. Next to her as Godfather will be the film and television actor Ismael Cruz Córdova, who jumped onto the national scene playing the role of Mando in “Sesame Street.”
