National Police Chief Listyo Sigit Prabowo Takes Notes on Feedback and Criticisms from Various Parties at 2023 Year-End Release

Jakarta

An interesting moment was recorded in the National Police’s 2023 year-end release agenda. After delivering the presentation, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo seemed serious about taking note of the criticism and input submitted by various parties to improve the National Police.

The moment when General Sigit was busy taking notes was recorded when the Indonesian Communications Director of Indicator Rustika Herlambang, Prof. Hermawan Sulistyo, and institutional leaders such as the KPU, Kompolnas, Komnas HAM and the Press Council, delivered presentations. The National Police Chief was seen taking out a small notebook and pen.

General Sigit listened seriously when Rustika presented the National Police report card to the media and social media (medsos). Occasionally he was seen nodding his head while taking notes on various inputs submitted.

Likewise, it was the turn of KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy’ari and cultural figures Sujiwo Tejo and others expressed their views on the performance of the National Police, General Sigit listened seriously while taking notes.

Sujiwo Tejo himself clearly and honestly conveyed his concerns to General Sigit. He immediately ‘insisted’ by asking the National Police Chief to carry out a number of evaluations.

“Please tighten the driving license test, sir,” said Sujiwo Tejo. He shared several experiences of finding drivers who did not obey the rules when driving.

“Please tighten it, sir, because this concerns our collective safety,” he said.

Sujiwo Tejo also said that he supports the National Police in continuing to create a sense of security in society. He supports that all Indonesian people receive security protection.

“Earlier about the importance of police and security, I really agree. Because for me, Mr. Chief of Police, this country may not give food, may not give health care, if there is no money. But if the state cannot give even a sense of security, it is better to just disband the state ,” he said.

Sujiwo Tejo also supports the National Police in carrying out routine mobile patrols which have an impact on creating a sense of security in the community. Patrols are considered to be able to reduce potential criminal acts.

“But don’t let your sense of security threaten you, sir,” he said.

“For example, can you replace the blue police lights with green ones, sir, not because of the PKB, because it really hurts your eyes, sir,” he continued. Sujiwo Tejo criticized the color of the police patrol car lights on the road which he said were too dazzling to motorists’ eyes. He hopes there will be an evaluation.

Sujiwo Tedjo also claimed General Sigit’s promise. According to him, when he was first appointed, Sigit promised to reduce civilian vehicles using rotator lights, strobes and sirens.

“Can you reduce that, sir? Because that’s Pak Listyo’s promise. It’s nothing, sir. It reduces our enjoyment as a people,” he said.

Even though he received sharp criticism from Sujiwo Tejo, General Sigit appeared to smile and nod as a sign that he accepted the criticism and input conveyed by the cultural expert.

At the end of his presentation, Sujiwo Tejo expressed his praise for General Sigit. He praised the firm and humanist approach applied by the National Police in dealing with various problems in society.

“I applaud the humanist approach, let’s applaud the National Police once again,” he said.

“Thank you, Mr Listyo Sigit,” continued Sujiwo Tejo as he then shook hands with General Sigit.

Since the beginning of his tenure as National Police Chief, General Sigit has opened the widest possible space for complaints to the public. The complaint channel was opened in order to create a National Police that is not anti-criticism.

He said the National Police should respond quickly to complaints from the public. The National Police, according to him, must correct all complaints made by the public.

“We are doing all this as a form of the National Police responding quickly, not criticizing, and making improvements to various kinds of complaints as well as input and aspirations from the public,” he said.
