National Costume Museum will have typical costumes from all over Latin America in it will be exhibited 180 typical costumes from the 32 states of the country – El Sol de Orizaba

Orizaba, Ver.- Completely renovated, the Costume Museum located in the Poliforum Mier y Pesado will reopen its doors at the end of November, with a modification also in its name, since the National Costume Museum was named due to the collection that it will protect. In it, 180 typical costumes from the 32 states of the country, as well as from Latin America, will be exhibited.

María Enriqueta Basurto Vargas, collector of traditional costumes and promoter of the same explained that in this space you will be able to know and admire the characteristic clothing of indigenous peoples from different countries such as Guatemala, Costa Rica, as well as Andean countries such as: Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia.

The project, he said, is to change the typical costumes every six months so that the population knows those of all Latin America.

The idea is that it be a traveling exhibition, which lasts for six months and then it will change with costumes from other Latin American countries, to learn about folklore.

He pointed out that not all of them are typical, original, but that many are mestizo costumes. “Colors, textures, striking designs, will be in this gallery of the suit, with an information sheet to know the origin, characteristic, material and other details”, detailed.

There will be two rooms with costumes from the Mexican Republic where 23 costumes from Oaxaca, 4 from rarámuri and otomíes will be exhibited. Besides there will be temporary rooms, the first dedicated to Guatemala, the second to Costa Rica and Panama, and the third to Andean countries such as Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Bolivia

A special place, apart, will have the Veracruz room where the costumes of the regions of the state will be exhibited, as well as that of the traditional and folkloric Jarocha, in addition to the costumes of the mountain area.

It should be remembered that This museum previously consisted of ceremonial, dance and traditional costumes from the different regions of the Mexican Republic. The collection ranged from Baja California Norte to Yucatán with representative and indigenous costumes from the 12 entities that make up the United Mexican States.

Each state had 2 or 3 changing rooms of the Mazahua, Otomí, Tuques, Mixes, Zapotecs, Totonacas, Huastecos, and others, including mestizo and Creole costumes.

It also included costumes from European countries such as Spain and even distant countries and continents such as Russia, China, Japan, India, Israel, Egypt, among others.

Finally noted that no opening ceremony is planned, until now; the museum will only reopen its doors completely renovated.
