NASA’s Mars Rover Mission Interrupted by Solar Conjunction: What it Means for Future Missions to Mars

The space agency NASA has been trying to work on two demanding space missions at the same time in recent years. One is trying to get people to the moon and the other to Mars. The truth is that getting people to the moon is looking more promising. However, in order to visit or settle another space body, you have to solve a whole series of other problems.

You must first ensure that the crew has something to eat, drink and breathe. In the case of Mars, of course, the problem is distance, so it is assumed that everything should be drawn from the sources there. That is why NASA first sent its robots or rovers there, whose task is to explore the environment there as much as possible and find out the survival possibilities for future astronauts.

But now NASA reports that it will lose all contact with its robots for two weeks. At the same time, no malfunction or technical fault is to blame, but an ordinary natural phenomenon. A situation arose when Mars and the Earth moved in their orbits and got into a position where the Sun is between them. This phenomenon is called a solar conjunction.

In the next two weeks, NASA will not even send any commands until both planets are in a more favorable position. According to calculations, this should not happen until November 25. This solar conjunction occurs roughly every two years. During this period of calm, however, all the technologies that NASA is supposed to continue to collect and process data on Mars, but will only send them to Earth at the moment when the connection is restored.
