Space – The Mars rover “Perseverance” is ready for launch in Florida on Thursday, according to NASA. “I just want to say that the readiness check is complete and we actually have the green light for the start.”
NASA director Jim Bridenstine said this on Monday at a press conference. The 1000-kilogram, three-meter-long robot is scheduled to launch in a rocket from Cape Canaveral on Thursday morning (local time) and land in February in a dry lake called “Jezero Crater” on the Red Planet.
“Perseverance” is the most technically demanding Mars rover ever. It cost $ 2.5 billion and was designed and built for around eight years. He has seven scientific instruments, two microphones, 23 cameras, a laser and even a small helicopter on board.
Traces of microbacterial life, the climate and the geology of Mars are to be investigated. This should also pave the way for the first manned journey to the neighboring planet on earth. NASA had previously brought four more robots to Mars.
