NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope Captures Stunning Image of 50 Baby Stars 390 Light-Years Away

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has delivered many spectacular images from space over the past year.

Now the researchers share another image, which they claim may be one of the best so far, write AP news.

– Could be a spaceship

– Insight into the past

The telescope has captured an image of 50 baby stars, located 390 light-years away, i.e. 9.5 trillion kilometers from the Earth’s surface. The researchers say that never before have they been able to capture this phase of a star’s life in such detail.

– It is an insight into the past, and shows what our own system looked like billions of years ago when it was formed. It is spectacular, says Eric Smith of NASA AP.

He points out that the starlight that is visible in the picture actually left the place 390 years ago, i.e. in 1633. It is still visible because of the distance.

Located in a cloud complex known as Rho Ophuichi, the baby stars are the closest star-forming region to Earth. Some of the stars should show shadows, which could indicate the start of new planets, according to NASA.

Chasing the beginning

The James Webb Space Telescope is the largest and most powerful astronomical observatory ever launched into space. It is considered the successor to the Hubble telescope, which has orbited the Earth for 33 years, writes NASA.

The researchers hope that they will have the opportunity to see the first stars and galaxies in the universe, while they search through the cosmos with the space telescope.

– We haven’t found them yet, but we are only one year into the mission, Smith adds AP.
