NASA recently shared on social media an image of two galaxies taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, and they appear to be entangled with each other.

In this shot, two star-studded galaxies can be seen performing a “minute” dance. Named separately, the lower galaxies are called NGC 5953 by NASA, and they clearly attract the galaxy in the upper right called NGC 5954, which appears to extend one spiral arm downward. According to NASA, this subtle dance occurred more than 100 million light years from Earth.

The two interacting galaxies are named Arp 91.

NASA also reports that NGC 5953 is clearly pulling NGC 5954, which appears to extend one spiral arm downward. The immense gravitational pull of the two galaxies causes them to interact, such gravitational interactions are common and an important part of galactic evolution.

NASA’s Instagram post of the two spiral galaxies said: “NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captures the subtle dance between two interacting galaxies.
