NASA headquarters renamed after 1st engineer – La Nouvelle Tribune

NASA continues its policy of inclusive reform. Last year, the powerful space agency praised the memory of three black mathematicians who contributed their knowledge to the many successes of NASA. These three mathematicians are Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson and Dorothy Vaughan. In 2019, the space agency renamed the street serving its Hidden Figures Way seat in honor of these three black mathematicians.

A few days ago, NASA took another step in its policy of historical recognition of its members. Indeed, this Wednesday June 24, Jim Bridenstine, the administrator of NASA announced that the headquarters of the agency in Washington was going to be renamed Mary Jackson.

An invaluable contribution to the evolution of NASA

Mary Jackson is simply the first African American NASA history engineer. She is considered a pioneer who greatly contributed to the various successes of the American space agency. It was in 1958 that Mary Jackson joined NASA. The work of the African American has made great strides in the field of supersonic flights.

“Mary W. Jackson was part of a very large group of women who helped NASA successfully send American astronauts into space” said Jim Bridenstine who also wished to salute the considerable contribution of women and African-Americans in the various successes of NASA.
