NASA Funds Three Companies to Develop Private Space Stations, Jakarta – NASA announced it had selected three US companies to receive government funding to develop a private space station.

According to NASA, of the 11 submitted proposals, the agency selected Blue Origin, Nanoracks LLC, and Northrop Grumman to receive more than USD 400 million (equivalent to Rp. 5.7 trillion) through three separate Space Art Agreements.

The private space station program is part of a larger plan that ultimately aims to replace the international space station (ISS) with a commercial private space station.

That way, the space station will be more cost-effective and focus on basic research and exploration.

For your information, Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos’ space technology company will receive USD 130 million (equivalent to Rp. 1.8 trillion) to develop Orbital Reef. Reef is considered a floating space station concept that the company first announced last October.

Orbital Reef is now being developed in partnership with Sierra Space, maker of the winged spacecraft Dream Chaser.
