NASA Finds US$10 Million Trillion Treasure, How to Dig It?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Treasure worth US $ 10 million trillion was found by the United States Space Agency (US) or NASA. But the way to dig it is not as imagined, because it is stored in an asteroid in outer space.

The ‘expensive’ asteroid is named 16 Psyche which is located in the asteroid belt between the planets Mars and Jupiter. The object, which is reportedly also worth US$700 quintillion, is about 226 kilometers in diameter.

The high value of 16 Psyche is due to the asteroid containing iron and nickel, which resulted from planetary exposure in the early Solar System.

NASA has plans to investigate more deeply about 16 Psyche, including researching the age and how the asteroid was formed, whether it is the same as the Earth’s core.

According to initial reports Forbes, NASA launches a long journey mission to 16 Psyche. Starting in August 2022 and continuing for about nine months, it will swing from Mars.

It wasn’t until January 2026 that NASA arrived at 16 Psyche. There, the space agency’s aircraft will work from 700 kilometers above the surface of the asteroid for 21 months to map and study the asteroid’s behavior.

But in October 2022, Forbes reported the trip was postponed. The reason is that NASA found problems with software and mission development.

NASA finally has a new itinerary for its trip. According to the agency, the launch of the 16 Psyche mission will take place around October 10, 2023.

Aircraft departing for 16 Psyche have magnetometers. It will measure any magnetic field and image in order to photograph and map the surface.

In addition, the aircraft is also equipped with a spectrometer, which will show the material that makes up the surface. You do this by measuring the emitted gamma rays and neutrons.

“But we don’t really know and we won’t know anything until we get there. We want to ask the main questions about the materials that make up planets. We are filled with questions and not a lot of answers. This is a real exploration,” explained Lindy Elkins -Tanton of Arizona State University and principal investigator of the study.

“We didn’t know what we were going to find. I expected us to be completely surprised.”
