NASA awards 31,000 euros to those who design the best “lunar toilet” …

The US space agency NASA plans to return to the moon in 2024, and for that mission they are looking for … a new toilet. That toilet, which must be able to serve in space and on the moon, may also cost a bit. After all, NASA makes an amount of $ 35,000, or about 31,000 euros, available to those who come up with the best design.

Preparations for the mission in 2024 are in full swing, but the team is therefore confronted with the question: how can both a man and a woman go to the toilet there comfortably.

The agency has now launched a competition that awards the best design for a “moon toilet” with a hefty cash prize. In total, NASA will provide $ 35,000 to be divided among 3 winners.

What makes the “moon toilet” so special? A lack of gravity causes just about everything to float. So also feces and urine. Therefore, the toilet must be able to absorb everything in different conditions. NASA has used some exhaust-type toilets in the past, such as in the ISS space station, but they are not as convenient and not as comfortable.

Anyone can participate in the design competition through the Lunar Loo Challenge.
