Nancy Pelosi calls on New York governor to consider whether he can stay in office

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Sunday invited New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, accused of sexual harassment, to consider whether he was still able to hold office, without going so far as to call for his resignation .

The House leader’s cautious words contrast with those of other Democratic Party officials, including her Senate counterpart Chuck Schumer, who have explicitly called on Mr. Cuomo to step down.

The women who denounced the governor “must be taken seriously,” “their accusations are credible and serious,” Pelosi told ABC.

“The governor loves New York, he has to search his heart to see if he can still run the state effectively,” she added.

Eight women have since February denounced Mr. Cuomo’s inappropriate gestures and words, including a former employee who accused him of putting his hand under his blouse in 2020.

Denouncing “false” allegations, Andrew Cuomo, 63, ten of whom head the influential New York State, refuses to give in to calls for resignation. He again asked Friday to wait for the results of the investigations opened after these revelations.

While vowing to have “no tolerance for sexual harassment,” Ms. Pelosi seemed to agree.

The women who accuse Mr. Cuomo “deserve to know the outcome of the investigation, as does the governor,” she said, “hoping” that his findings will be made public soon.
