Nancy. Daum presents a vase in collaboration with rapper Gims

This vase, called “Origine”, is the result of a collaboration between the famous Daum crystal factory and the rapper Gims. An astonishing association which mixes classicism and African influences. “It was a real human encounter. These collaborations are the strength of our family business, ”recalls Vanessa Sitbon, communications and digital manager at Daum. She adds, “we wanted to partner with Gims and he wanted to develop his art”.

Known for his songs, the artist also studied art, graphics and communication. Vanessa Sitbon reports that the singer “draws particularly well” and “had a feeling of incomplete”.

The design of this piece took about a year. During this period, the teams presented the artist with the project and the techniques of the house. Quickly, the interested party delivered a paper drawing. Then, the craftsmen worked on the production of the pieces using the lost wax casting technique. Each creation is unmolded and reworked by hand. “Initially, Gims was supposed to come to our Nancy workshops. Unfortunately, because of the Covid, this could not be done. We will organize that soon, ”emphasizes the communication professional.

African art deco and mask

The coin, blue and gold, tells the story of Gims. It intertwines the Democratic Republic of Congo – the artist’s country of origin – and France, his land of welcome. Vanessa Sitbon theorizes: “when you see the vase, it’s striking. The straight lines are reminiscent of art deco and masks African art. “

Eight copies will be produced. These unique pieces will be distributed through the Daum house distribution network. The unit price will be € 20,000. Also, when the health situation allows it, a vase “will be sold on the occasion of a charity sale organized by Gims for the benefit of UNICEF”, indicates the communications manager.
