My week – “Actually, almost double the work” – Munich

That a voluntary social year (FSJ) does not necessarily have to be completed in the social field – for Janine Göggelmann () this realization was a real eye-opener. Her mother gave her the idea to devote herself to culture and education. Since last September, the 19-year-old has been supporting the team at the Trudering cultural center in event management, social media marketing and in the office. “It’s really varied and I can really let off steam creatively, for example when designing posters,” says Janine Göggelmann.

Due to the corona pandemic, everything is currently a bit different than expected, especially with a cultural actor. Göggelmann’s week is still well filled: “Actually, it is almost double the work when events are constantly being postponed,” she says. Nevertheless, she currently only works two days a week in the Treff on Wasserburger Landstrasse. She uses the rest of the time for her own project, which she is planning with another FSJ student from Munich: a jointly curated art exhibition on the subject of “Impulses of Time”. She deliberately chose the topic very openly. For example, it could be about environmental protection, around 2020 or bees. “We want older people in particular to see what the younger ones are interested in.”

The registration phase for a place in the show is currently ongoing, this week Janine and her partner have to decide on a selection mode which artists may be part of the exhibition. Above all, it has to be clarified whether a third person will join the jury so that a majority can arise. “So that it is fair,” says Göggelmann and grins.

She also wants to use this week to win another cultural institution in Munich as a cooperation partner for the project. Your very personal highlight will be the weekend: “I absolutely love the fact that the weather is finally nice again!” Janine Göggelmann also likes to use good weather creatively in her free time – for example for photography, one of her hobbies. And who knows, maybe she can even use the photos as a work sample in the end. After all, she wants to apply for a place at university as a communication designer.
