The edition of MWC that will take place in Barcelona between February 26 and 29 will be the 18th edition held in the city. Under the Future First motto, the GSMA plans to receive about 95,000 participants, up from 88,500 in 2023. More than half of them will be from sectors adjacent to the mobile industry.
Mats Granryd, CEO of GSMA, presented together with Lara Dewar, marketing director, the highlights of MWC Barcelona 2024. The congress program will be organized into six subthemes that reflect the most recent trends and technologies: 5G and Beyond; Connecting Everything; Humanizing AI; Manufacturing DX; Game Changers; and Our Digital DNA. According to Dewar, “the MWC is no longer Mobile First, or Digital First, we are Future First because the event brings together industries, technologies and communities to realize the potential of the future for the sustainability of our society and our planet. The MWC in Barcelona will be the opportunity to interact with the most prominent leaders of the moment, participate in the debates of the year and at the same time experience the technology of tomorrow.”
Among the more than 2,000 exhibitors that will occupy all the pavilions of Fira Barcelona’s Gran Vía venue, there are practically all of the leaders in the telecommunications industry. Granryd highlighted that this edition includes firms that were absent until now, such as KPMG, Alipay and China Telecom, among others.
Granryd has highlighted that MWC Barcelona 2024 will represent the launch of the Open Gateway initiative, presented in 2023 and which opens the resources of mobile networks to application developers. Open Gateway already has the active participation of more than 20 operator groups from around the world.
10 years of 4YFN
Within MWC Barcelona 2024, the tenth edition of the 4YFN platform for innovation and startup companies will be held, which in this decade has welcomed more than 4,200 exhibitors and has brought more than 9,200 founders into contact with 5,200 investors in search of digital companies more innovative.
Within the framework of MWC Barcelona, the Journey to the Future and Sports Tomorrow Congress spaces will repeat, both in Hall 6, and Connected Industries in Hall 4. The GSMA Ministerial Program for policy makers and leaders of the digital industry will also take place. , which on this occasion will debate investment in networks, spectrum availability and the usage gap.
MWC Barcelona 2024 will once again be, for the tenth consecutive year, a carbon-neutral event, recognized by Guiness World Records as “the largest carbon-neutral trade fair in the world.”
