Elon Musk can pay some of the biggest annual taxes in history. He said this on the social network Twitter, quoted by Business Insider.
Options taxes could top $ 10 billion this year, according to Bloomberg estimates. According to Musk, he “will pay more taxes than any American in history this year” on Twitter.
Musk does not receive a regular salary or financial bonuses, but large packages of stock options – for example, when his company Tesla achieves certain stock market results. It has held nearly 15 million of Tesla’s 22.9 million shares granted to it in 2012, and still has 7.9 million left before it expires in August 2022.
Musk also sold several mansions in California this year, which probably brought in taxable income.
