Most recently, a domestic love show was submitted for audience evaluation “Love in the camper” the new season. Musician Mārtiņš Grunte, known from the “O! Kartes Academy”, also takes part in it. The guy does not hide that in his childhood he did not even dream of going on a bigger stage, but over time his dreams and opportunities only grew.

Mārtiņš comes from Kolka. As a child, he thought that only selected people manage to get on stage. Moving to Ugāli, Mārtiņš slowly began to realize his dream. He first performed on stage with self-written poems, but after receiving an acoustic guitar, he wrote his first song at around the age of 15. “When It Rains”.

Membership in “O! Card Academy”

As time went on, in 2010, Mārtiņš decided to take a risk and applied to “O!Kartes Akademiia” in order, according to him, to truly enjoy what the music business means. Participating in the show was a big stepping stone to what he is doing now.

“It used to seem that when I was younger – around 10 years old – that music and art were meant only for the chosen ones. Do not try to rain in there at all – you will not get 100%. Now you have to encourage and urge the young artists to put their heads together and create. I filled out the application to the academy, but I was sure that I would not be accepted. One of my colleagues also sent and asked for help playing the guitar because she was chosen for the selection. Let’s go to the first selection. Jānis Stībelis was on the jury there, he watched me play the guitar and asked me if I also sing. At that time, I directly included Stiebel’s songs in my work, and I also arranged them a little in my own style, and sang 2 songs. I got a notification that I had to come to the second round of auditions, but the lady I was playing guitar for didn’t get the invitation. Then I had joy and a little heartache at the same time.”

Mārtiņš Grunte is a Latvian musician

Mārtiņš describes himself as a good composer who likes to collaborate with other artists. The musician chooses to write songs in Latvian. “We need to cultivate music and art more. If I start mixing languages, it will be neither this nor that. Even more, when listening to young artists, you can hear slang words – and they are definitely not pleasant to the ear. These American trends feed only one sound into our heads. It is better that this music is a good addition to our own – Latvian – music.” Mārtiņš admits that in the future he could also write a song in English, for example to participate in Supernova.

On a daily basis, Mārtiņš works as a hairdresser for men. “My goal is to highlight the man. On the plus side, everything has sports, so that there is no routine in any of the areas. Everyone has their place, everyone has their time. There are also small hobbies, for example, I have been doing winter swimming for 6 years.”

Why did Mārtiņš decide to participate in the show?

Speaking about participating in the show “Mīla kemperī”, Mārtiņš did not think about it for long and quickly decided to jump into the challenge. “I was authentically me. I don’t regret a single minute, word or deed. I allowed myself to be myself, here and now. We became friends as personalities in the first hours. We were all very different, but united at the same time. As a result – very good memories of everything that happened. I was surprised that we can also make a moving and very fast show in Latvia.”

Mārtiņš admits that he is not afraid of popularity – he expects that the viewers of the show may have their own opinion about him, which may also be reflected in not very flattering comments – the guy is ready to accept them.

When asked if Mārtiņš also managed to write a new song during the show, he replied that there was no inspiration during the filming, but 3 days after the show several texts and one song were written, which he hopes to record in the sound studio in the near future.
