Willemijn Verkaik is looking into opportunities for retraining, now that her work as a musical actress has largely been halted due to the corona crisis. Verkaik is looking for a profession that is useful in society and is close to her passion for singing, she says on Wednesday Faithful.
“I’m not a quieter,” the musicals motivate Frozen, Annie in Wicked Verkaik confessed her efforts. “I am thinking of a study to develop myself, a profession to practice. Speech therapy, for example. That is useful, but it is still close to singing.”
Singing is what Verkaik prefers to do. “But if that doesn’t work, I have to find another way to be happy,” said the 45-year-old musical actress, who has started researching “what kind of work is needed in society” and what suits her.
In June Verkaik was asked by the Amsterdam DeLaMar Theater to give thirteen small-scale concerts. Because she responded to this, the musical actress’ search for a new subject was “pushed to the background”.
