Music – Mick Jagger Still Pondering Setlist – Culture

Baden-Baden/London (dpa) – Fans of the Rolling Stones should not necessarily rely on the legendary classics at the concerts of their music idols’ European tour in the summer.

Lead singer Mick Jagger told radio station SWR3 that he is still working on the set list for the performances and likes to surprise his fans. There have also been concerts without rock songs like “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”.

A setlist is a tricky thing, revealed Jagger. “You need the widest possible selection of songs in rehearsals so that you don’t have to play the same songs every night,” said the 78-year-old. “Also so that the band doesn’t get bored.” In addition, the song sequence must have a flow. “You can’t keep going back and forth between fast and slow numbers during those two hours on stage,” said Jagger. “The whole thing has to flow.”

Among the 14 shows of the “Sixty” tour in the summer, two concerts are planned in Germany from June. On June 5th, Jagger and Co. will perform in the Olympic Stadium in Munich, on July 27th in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

Shaped by the world wars

In view of the world situation, the musician can still hardly believe that with Russia’s attack on Ukraine there is war in Europe again. In an interview with the weekly newspaper “Die Zeit”, Jagger said that he had not thought it possible that something like this could ever happen again in his lifetime. “Our parents taught us all our lives what kind of suffering wars cause. Now we have one right on our own doorstep.”

No one benefits from this war, it is “completely pointless,” emphasized Jagger. “At the moment, of course, it’s a total horror for the people in Ukraine, it gets you down.” His parents “used to be constantly talking about the war at the dinner table, that was the dominant topic of my childhood and youth. We were indirectly but lastingly shaped by the two world wars.”
