Music and theater in the Sandstone Museum: Premiere for “Culture Picnic” – Havixbeck

Visitors can make themselves comfortable on the picnic blanket they have brought with them in the garden of the Baumberger Sandstone Museum to experience music and theater in the fresh air at the start of the summer vacation. The “cultural picnic” will celebrate its premiere on July 4th (Sunday) from 2pm to 7pm. The varied program for all ages is organized by actors from the local cultural scene.

With the falling incidence, the cultural program in Havixbeck can pick up speed again after a long break. The Baumberger Sandstone Museum, the Café Arte, went together , the association “KulturGut Havixbeck” and Marketing Havixbeck are therefore working on turning the idea of the “cultural picnic” that was born some time ago into reality.

Extensive museum garden

“Picnicking is part of the Münsterland way of life”, explained the managing director of Marketing Havixbeck, Birgit Lenter. In Corona times, not only families would have rediscovered or rediscovered this form of recreational activities. The event in the spacious garden of the Sandstone Museum will therefore be attached to the Münsterland Picnic Days, which will take place from June 18 to 20 (Friday to Sunday).

The music program will be opened by Manfred Wordtmann (saxophone) and Alexander Morsey (double bass). The two musicians are known to the audience, among other things, through their appearances in the series “Musik zur Marktzeit”. The “Tree Mountain Stringband” has already entertained the audience at wine festivals and concert evenings in the sandstone museum. The band presents their “world music” in the second part of the afternoon.

The actors of the theater group “Das Törchen” have rehearsed some theater scenes in corona-compliant rehearsals, which they now want to perform on the green meadow. The pantomime Christoph Gilsbach will mingle with the visitors.

Museum director Dr. Joachim Eichler will guide visitors through the museum in groups. Museum employee Rieke Köhler will offer one-hour stone carving courses for children, during which the first steps in stone processing are taught.

Local actors

“The cultural picnic is a nice form of cooperation between local actors, both in terms of the organization and the program,” said Dr. Joachim Eichler. The event is financially supported by the Sparkasse Westmünsterland and the association “KulturGut Havixbeck”.

In order to be able to take part in the “culture picnic”, registration in the Havixbeck Marketing office in the town hall, 0 25 07/12 98, email: [email protected], is required. Registrations for the Steinhauer course for children are also accepted there. Entry costs EUR 2.50 for people aged 14 and over.

Food from the picnic basket

According to the current Corona Protection Ordinance, visitors can spread their picnic blankets on previously marked places in the museum garden, according to the organizers. Proof of a negative corona test, vaccination or recovery – according to the current status – must be presented. The number of visitors is therefore limited.
