Municipalities will receive an intranet for corona infections

The Flemish Agency for Care and Health is working on an online reporting of corona cases up to district level. The local authorities criticized that they are too much in the dark about the virus in their own municipality.

Mayors and governors are complaining that they do not have a detailed enough map of the corona virus in their municipality. They really only know how many cases there are in their municipality and which age categories are involved. While, among others, Antwerp governor Cathy Berx (CD&V) and her colleague and party member in West Flanders Carl Decaluwé say that they have been pushing for pandemic statistics down to district and preferably even street level since the very start of the pandemic in March. .

“We want to meet that question,” says Joris Moonens of the Agency for Care and Health. ‘We are working on including more detailed data in the care plans for the local authorities, say a kind of intranet with password. We previously provided the municipalities with additional details about the crisis in residential care centers. ”

Moonens says that there is a middle ground between information hunger and privacy issues. ‘It should certainly be possible up to district level. Up to street level is becoming more difficult, especially because we must prevent unauthorized persons from accessing patient data. In fact, only the general practitioner is allowed to do this, and in times of crisis a number of authorized doctors from the government. But we are looking to give municipal authorities a deeper view through doctors in the local care networks. ”

It will certainly help, but it does not sound like a miracle cure either. ‘The corona detection makes it possible to map out which routes the virus travels between networks of people. It is usually not easy to find where someone has become infected, because infection could have happened up to two weeks ago, ‘says Moonens.
