Munich – On Saturday afternoon (January 23), a freight train and a meridian train had to initiate an emergency brake on the Brauner railway bridge. The train driver had previously recognized two people who had crossed the tracks shortly before his train.

The press release in full:

Shortly before 4 p.m., the federal police were informed that a freight train and a meridian train were parked after an emergency brake was initiated because of people on the track near the Brauner railway bridge. Investigations revealed that the engine driver of the freight train saw two young people crossing the tracks on the bridge. His freight train and the Meridian 79029 then initiated an emergency brake and stopped in the area of the railway bridge. The driver of the freight train got out of his locomotive and followed the young people on foot.

In the area of Hefner-Alteneck-Strasse he hired the two Germans, an 18-year-old from Giesing and a 20-year-old from Maxvorstadt. The train driver informed the police and handed both of them over to a police officer. While the Meridian was able to continue its journey, the railway line towards Ostbahnhof and Rosenheim could only be used on one side for a long time. This resulted in considerable disruptions in rail traffic to and from Munich.

Investigations by the Federal Police responsible for rail traffic revealed that the 18-year-old said she “wanted to take pictures” on the bridge. They and their companions have been given extensive instruction. In addition, both expect criminal investigations into dangerous interference with rail traffic.

Caution, risk of death!

The Munich Federal Police warns in this context, before unauthorized entry to tracks and railway systems or before being too close to the tracks. In the last few days, there have been repeated disruptions in train traffic due to people on the track.

Pictures of landscapes or trains can be fatal, as can selfies in the track area. In addition, criminal investigations may result. Even those who act negligently according to § 315 StGB and negligently cause the danger can be punished with imprisonment for up to two years or with a fine.
