Muhammad Sadeli, Online Ojol Rider with Electric Motorbike, Shares Challenges and Struggles

Jakarta

The story of an online ojek (Ojol) that rides an electric motorbike became the most searched article by detikers in January 2023. Ojol, who is called Muhammad Sadeli, said that he often had difficulty getting orders, and quite a few consumers even canceled orders because they used an electric motorbike, which he considered very slowly.

The detikOto editor met and chatted directly with an ojol driver named Muhammad Sadeli. He admitted that he had been using the Smoot Tempur electric motorbike for a long time to transport passengers.

At that time, Sadeli explained that after using an electric motorbike for months, he felt there was a difference compared to a petrol-powered motorbike. For example, the engine sound is smoother, operational costs are more economical, and the speed is still below average.

“If you ask me the difference with a petrol motorbike, this electric motorbike is very slow, it can’t go fast. Its speed is only 50 kilometers per hour. So if someone orders, I often ask first, are you in a hurry or not? I’m afraid the motorbike won’t be able to keep up,” he said. Sadeli to detikOto, at that time.

Sadeli admitted that customers often cancel their orders after finding out that they are using an electric motorbike. Even though it hurt, he eventually got used to the situation.

“If someone wants to order in a hurry, it’s a hassle, it’s difficult. To be honest, (orders) have been canceled a lot since riding an electric motorbike. That’s usually after I tell them (via message) that I’m riding an electric motorbike. Usually they are the ones who I really want to rush,” he explained.

Not only that, Sadeli added, there were a number of consumers who canceled their orders after finding out they were going to stop by the swap station to replace the battery. Because, for some consumers, it takes a lot of time.

“Even though changing the battery only takes a few seconds,” said Sadeli.
