Mud baths, ice bombs and frozen blood: this is how the zoo reacts to the “monkey heat”

Keepers prepared a soothing mud bath for the red river hogs with a cool jet of water.

For the penguins there were so-called ice bombs – a fish delicacy artfully layered in several layers and then frozen. The herons present also liked the cold delicacies distributed in the pool.

In recent years, the Frankfurt Zoo has always provided the animals with additional cooling when it was very hot.

For the bears, for example, there were often frozen pieces of fruit, for tigers a frosty mixture of water and goat’s blood as refreshment.

According to earlier information from the zoo, however, the enclosures are designed in such a way that their inhabitants find sun and shade.

The German weather service predicts maximum daily temperatures of up to 38 degrees for the upcoming weekend in Hesse.
