Mubadala Energy Makes Major Gas Discovery in South Andaman Block off Sumatra Coast

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Industries (SKK Migas) and the Mubadala Energy Cooperation Agreement (KKKS) announced the discovery of gas from the Tangkulo-1 deep sea exploration drilled well in the South Andaman Block approx. 65 km off the coast of northern Sumatra Island. This gas discovery is the second discovery from a deep sea well operated by Mubadala Energy. The Tangkulo-1 well was drilled to a depth of 3,400 meters in a sea depth of 1,200 meters, just a few months after the big discovery at the Layaran-1 well, which is still in the South Andaman Block.

“On behalf of SKK Migas, I would like to express my gratitude for Mubadala Energy’s success in rediscovering gas potential in South Andaman, after discovering gas last year through the Layaran-1 well with a capacity of 6 TCF of gas. instead, so that the current capacity in South Andaman has reached about 8 TCF of gas instead,” SKK Migas CEO Dwi Soetjipto said in a statement in Jakarta, Monday.

He said that these decisions were a good support for SKK Migas and the Upstream Oil and Gas Industry in supporting national energy security.

Furthermore, this gas was found about 80 meters in the gas column reservoir Oligocene sandstone The quality of the Tangkulo-1 well is determined through data collection during drilling, including the acquisition of a 72-meter full core, wireline logging, sidewall core, pressure and fluid samples.

Using the latest Drill Stem Test (DST) design, the Tangkulo-1 successfully produced 47 mmscf/d of quality gas and 1,300 barrels of condensate. Although test results are limited due to the resources available, the potential of the well is estimated at 80-100 mmscf/d and more than 2,000 barrels of condensate.

At the same time, the CEO of Mubadala Energy Mansoor Mohammad Al Hamid explained that this discovery shows that the South Andaman block is a promising global energy player.

Mubadala Energy, with 80 percent participation rights in the South Andaman Block, is the largest net area holder in the offshore area of northern Sumatra Island.
