The Allianz MTV Stuttgart volleyball team suffered a clear 3-0 defeat (19:25, 22:25, 18:25) in the first game against final debutant Potsdam in Halle.
Stuttgart clear favourite
The cup winners went into the duel as favorites against SC Potsdam, who got off to a much better start and were able to pull away 6:3 early in the first set. The hosts had little to oppose against the long attacking balls of the Potsdam women. The Stuttgart women’s own attacking game often ran through Krystal Rivers or Simone Lee and was easy for the guests to control. So the first set went to SC Potsdam with a score of 25:19.
Potsdam also dominant in the second set
The second set showed a similar picture, because the guests were able to break away from a somewhat more balanced initial phase with 11:7. Stuttgart’s coach Tore Aleksandersen took a break to react accordingly. However, his team was not able to stop the Potsdam attack and so Aleksandersen was forced to take his last time out of the set a few minutes later at 8:14.
Stuttgart is approaching
The Stuttgart women were then able to score three points in a row and, also due to the loud support in the hall, came up to one point (13:14). But then it was the guests’ turn again and they were able to break away again at 23:19 and finally also win the second set at 25:22.
Clear victory in three sets
The hosts couldn’t keep the third set open for very long either and fell 4:7 behind early on. The guests were then able to gradually increase their lead and clearly win the set 25:18 and also the game. The second meeting will take place in Potsdam on Friday. Three wins are necessary to win the title.
